{"id":314,"date":"2015-05-07T21:09:55","date_gmt":"2015-05-07T21:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carolhepburn.com\/blog\/?p=314"},"modified":"2015-06-22T00:47:33","modified_gmt":"2015-06-22T00:47:33","slug":"ethnography-in-praxis-in-the-college-literature-classroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.carolhepburn.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/ethnography-in-praxis-in-the-college-literature-classroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethnography in Praxis in the College Literature Classroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"tb\"><span class=\"ln l\"><span class=\"ftr\">In this article, I suggest that an applied communication approach using Dell Hymes<\/span><span class=\"f341\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"ftr\"> framework\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"ftr\">of <\/span><span class=\"f341\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"ftr\">ethnography of communication<\/span><span class=\"f341\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"ftr\"> could serve as an intervention strategy in order to promote a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ln l\"><span class=\"ftr\">greater sense of shared community by increasing member-shared knowledge based on speech\u00a0<\/span><\/span>codes, speech acts, and speech events within the college literature curriculum. I explore this\u00a0framework with consideration on how this communication approach could be used as a way to\u00a0help students identify with stories that contain culture-specific language in the form of speech\u00a0<span class=\"ln l\"><span class=\"ftr\">codes, and how this assumed shared knowledge is necessary for member identification.
